The Brock family home is an extension of the business in a very real way. Julian Brock has been in the business for nearly forty years, and Brocks Cabinets South is truly a family operation, with little separation between ‘family’ and ‘business.’ Brock’s Cabinets South specializes in high-quality cabinets and millwork for residential projects, working with custom homebuilders and directly with homeowners.

The cabinet shop is nearby, making it possible to use the home as a showroom for potential clients, who can see the end result in a home setting. “All our work is designed and crafted by hand,” Brock states. “The plans are always hand-drawn — I really can look at a kitchen, or any other space, and visualize what the client wants and how it will look. I am particular about balance and symmetry, and I have an innate sense of what will work and what will fit.” Everything that Brock builds is real wood and will last virtually forever. “The only time I have a repeat customer is when they move to a new home,” he says. “They never have to replace anything I build.”

The family home shows off Brock’s talent and experience in the exquisite millwork throughout. “My wife Becky has her dream kitchen, and she loves having room for our three grandchildren – soon to be four – to run and play,” Brock says. The 12 ½ foot ceilings, arched doorways, wide plank floors, built-in storage, and open floor plan create an ambiance that is functional and homey. The millwork in the spacious open kitchen is efficient and enormously attractive, and the 3 ½ baths include features designed specifically to fit the family’s needs. The home has 3,700 square feet of living area, an 825 square foot heated and cooled garage, and about 700 square feet of covered porches. Brock chose a metal tile roof, spray-in foam insulation, poured concrete walls, and a Manabloc plumbing system that allows each plumbing fixture to be turned off at its location. “We wanted the home to withstand whatever weather conditions we faced, and we wanted it to be comfortable and efficient as far as heating and cooling. I’m very conscious of storm safety, and I wanted this home to be bulletproof.”

“We purchased the property three years ago,” Brock says. “My mother-in-law lives two properties away, and when this was available, I knew it was for us. It’s about thirty acres, much of it a pecan grove. We wanted to be out in the country, like where I grew up; we wanted a family compound, and we are well on the way. We built my son’s house first, then ours, and I imagine we will be adding others soon. We get so busy with the cabinet business that we can hardly take care of the farm and the pecans, so we have brought on a farm manager to help us,” he says.

Completing the Brock family home is their registered Friesian stud, Zervas. “My daughter got into horses as a youngster, and we now have this beautiful animal as a result.” Zervas is solid black and absolutely beautiful with the breed’s signature thick, lush mane, tail, and feathered feet.
