I often hear from someone selling their piano ‘Everything still works,’ as if it’s just a matter of each key making a sound. It is so much more than that, especially when you consider that a piano has over 10,000 moving parts.”

Many music stores offer rentals or financing options, making it easier for customers to find the perfect piano for their home or studio. “There is an old saying: ‘If you don’t know your diamonds, then know your jeweler.’ I think it’s true with pianos,” said Frost. “When shopping at a piano dealer, it is important to make sure that the dealer has a good technical staff, preferably technicians who are RPTs, or Registered Piano Technicians with the Piano Technicians Guild. All pianos, new and used, need to be properly prepped before delivery, and they need to be properly maintained after delivery. Most importantly, a piano warranty is only as good as the dealer who sells the piano.”
