First: immerse yourself.
“For so many people, the coastal lifestyle is all about soaking in what’s good,” says Benys. “It’s about being ready and willing to stop whatever you’re doing to simply appreciate the beauty around you.”
Second: if a friend invites you to their sailboat in the Bahamas for a few weeks, say yes. “Don’t pause. Don’t think it over. Just tell them yes,” she adds.
That’s exactly what she and her husband did in early 2025, visiting friends who live full-time on a 36-foot sailboat. The experience of boat life, with its slower pace and daily rhythms, became something of a creative retreat. The picturesque Exumas alone were inspiration enough.

“That turquoise water was even more beautiful in person than I’d imagined. At first, it was always what drew my eye,” says Benys. “But then, after about a week, another kind of inspiration kicked in. On hikes, I started slowing down to really look at the layers and layers of plants around me, seeing details I’d been missing.”
Details in Coastal Palms Art collection, explore the hidden shapes and textures of the tropics. The Botanicals Series plays with shadow, light, and angles through macro photography. The Monochrome Series uses black-and-white imagery to highlight the sculptural elegance of humble palmettos.

Overall, Benys describes the aesthetic as upscale tropical.
“I wanted these photos to include classic nods to coastal art, but with an elevated, minimalist style,” she explains. “The goal is timeless elegance, clean lines and compositions, so the viewer can fill in the blanks with their own feelings about coastal living. Whenever your eye falls on it, you should feel a moment of bliss, of beauty, that sigh of relief from simply being by the ocean.”
The collection is available for individual purchase as fine art giclée prints, and in custom packages for boutique hotels and other business spaces. Benys is also available by commission for botanical portrait sessions, capturing cherished places through fine art photography of iconic plants and landscape details.

Coastal Palms Art is a line of coastal art and décor in an elegant, minimal aesthetic — designed to reflect the serene beauty of the seaside.
