Inside an Elegant Gulf-Front Retreat Designed by Risa’s Interiors

Along Scenic Highway 30A, where the Gulf becomes part of daily life, a five-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath Gulf-front residence has been thoughtfully reimagined as a refined coastal retreat. Owned by Steve and Lucy Tujague of Madisonville, Louisiana, the home was designed and fully remodeled by Risa’s Interiors, with Risa Priestley and Beverly Canady serving as designers. “We trusted you and your team to deliver a beautiful place to enjoy the beach and make wonderful family memories,” the homeowners share. “Risa, you delivered with enthusiasm, integrity, inspiration, and quality. We could not have chosen a better person to work with.”

From the moment you step inside, the view takes center stage. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame what Risa Priestley, owner of Risa’s Interiors, describes as one of the most spectacular views on 30A. The Gulf stretches endlessly beyond the balcony, setting the tone for a home intentionally designed to mirror its environment—serene, refined, and effortlessly coastal.

The interior palette draws inspiration from sea and sky, layering soft blues, teals, creams, greens, and warm golds in a way that feels calm without becoming predictable. Elegant finishes bring cohesion throughout the condo, beginning with wood-look tile flooring in a driftwood sand tone that subtly reflects the hues outside. “That’s exactly why we chose it,” Priestley explains. “It grounds the space and ties everything together.”

In the kitchen, form and function work in perfect harmony. A professional-grade Viking range anchors the space, topped with a statement hood and paired with a convenient pot-filler faucet. Custom cabinetry features crisp white uppers and soft blue lowers, finished with warm gold hardware echoed throughout the home. Above the island, an elongated sea-glass chandelier adds movement and a soft coastal shimmer, while gold bamboo-inspired barstools reinforce relaxed elegance.

Glass mosaic tile introduces texture and visual interest in key areas, including the kitchen backsplash and both fireplaces. Each fireplace offers its own distinct personality—one wrapped in aqua and sea-blue tones, the other finished in an iridescent shell mosaic that shimmers with pearl-like depth. These statement features serve as natural focal points, complemented by furnishings carefully selected through Risa’s Interiors.

Art plays an important role in shaping the home’s character. Arched doorways and softly curved walls provide the perfect backdrop for original works by local artist Connie Dismukes, whose pieces add texture, color, and a strong sense of place. The result is a space that feels curated rather than staged—layered, personal, and rich with detail.

The bathrooms are equally considered. In the hall bath, dramatic tilework transforms a smaller space into a standout design moment. The primary bath offers a spa-like retreat, with a soaking tub set against a beautifully tiled feature wall complete with a built-in ledge for candles or décor. Quartz countertops, refined fixtures, and his-and-her sinks elevate the space, while lighting ranges from crystal-inspired accents to delicate shell chandeliers.

Bedrooms throughout the condo offer unexpected luxuries, including sitting areas and custom furnishings that make each feel like a private escape. One bedroom even features its own fireplace, reinforcing the sense of comfort and indulgence.

Custom window treatments were created by Beverly Canady, a professional window treatment specialist with more than 40 years of experience who works closely with Risa’s Interiors. Her designs frame the Gulf views beautifully—functional, elegant, and timeless.

The dining area continues the theme of relaxed sophistication, centered around a beautifully crafted table beneath a cascading shell chandelier. A softly illuminated chest behind the table adds warmth and ambiance, making the space equally suited for intimate dinners and entertaining.
