For a number of years, wallpaper has been out of vogue, giving way to a more modern aesthetic feel of paint, but today there has been a resurgence in popularity of wallpaper with designers and homeowners. The memories of past generation's more formal wallpaper designs which seems to stretch all around the home are fading. Today, with new technology, wallpaper is on a roll, being seen as quite cool and retro.

"We have definitely seen an increased interest in wall coverings" said Jeff Spradlin, owner of Garden Street Fabrics & Design, located in Downtown Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach. He attributes the rise in popularity to all the new designs, textures and color combinations. Wallpaper now comes in many more textures and embellishments including glass beading, cork, wood grains and metallic.

"Wallpaper can now be used on a single wall in a room to provide a dramatic focal point," states Jeff. "Popular areas of use include entry foyers, dining rooms, master bedrooms and as the backdrop in bookcases." In creating a design for a room, use wallpaper made of hemp or grass cloth to add that first layer of texture to the room or match it with accent upholstery to make a bold statement to any room. With new technology, graphic patterns, vibrant colors and earthly textures, combined with easier to install techniques, as simple as peel and stick, wallpaper will continue to see a strong comeback. "The future of wallpaper has never been more exciting with the introduction of 3-D printers and computer generated graphics," said Jeff.
