Hints of Nantucket - The Burgher Home

“My husband and I purchased a vacation home in the area south of 30A more than a decade ago,” says Kim Burgher. “We fell in love with the area, and decided after a while that eventually we wanted to make it our primary home.”

The Burghers kept an eye open for the right opportunity, and came across a little cul-de-sac in Camp Creek Point, just across from Watersound. “We found the perfect lot, on Camp Creek Lake, with the Gulf just over the dunes, and then we found the perfect architect for us. Geoff Chick created a vision that optimized the lot’s best features with our list of ‘must haves’.”

With the lot secured and the architect selected, the Burghers selected Ron Guernsey and Envision Builders as the contractor.

“We were so comfortable with him from the beginning,” says Kim. “He came across as competent, honest and easy to communicate with. Plus, we felt that he would build a safe, sturdy home, which was important to us since we have so much water around us.”

The Burghers became very involved in the design and construction process.

“We are very organized people, and we wanted to be part of the planning and the decisions,” Kim says. “This was going to be our primary home, our forever home, and we had a vision and a plan for implementing it.”

While the Burghers made many of the decorating decisions, they did work with designer Holly Shipman on others.

“She was a perfect fit,” says Kim. I’m not great with colors, and she was fantastic in guiding me in this area. We were able to use a lot of our existing furniture, and she helped us envision it in the new house.”

The 4,100 square foot home, with its hints of Nantucket but with a southern coastal vibe, boasts three bedrooms, plus a bunkroom, a music room, a workout room, an office, a TV/media room, and two laundry rooms, filling every space need imaginable. The outdoor area is equally well planned and equipped, with multiple decks off each of the three levels, an outdoor grill, a bi-level pool and hot tub on the deck overlooking Camp Creek Lake, and a dock complete with a boat for sunset cruises to the beach. Kim notes,

“The decks overlooking the lake and the Gulf are our favorite places for a sunset cocktail, and I can’t tell you how much we enjoy the ambiance and the view!”

A beautiful, functional kitchen was at the top of the couple’s wish list. They found the perfect piece of quartzite for their island in a store in Atlanta and discovered that the owners had a store in the Destin market. They were able to have it shipped and it became a focal point of the open kitchen and set the tone for the countertops, backsplash, and cabinets. The warm, wide plank wood floors provide a counterpoint to the cool whites and grays used throughout the home, and pops of color come from well-chosen artwork, richly hued cushions, and a dramatic set of rich green barn doors. All in all, the Burghers have created a home that beautifully reflects their tastes and sensibilities. Whether they are paddle-boarding just outside their back door, entertaining friends and family in their formal dining room, or just watching the sunset on a quiet evening, they love the home they have created in Camp Creek Point.
