Burnt Pine - Sandestin

Sandestin is a resort community comprised of many smaller communities and offers something for just about everyone with an abundance of living, lodging, dining, meeting, and entertainment options available. Many people who come to visit, play golf, or enjoy the sparkling white beaches and crystal clear water find themselves returning, either for future visits or as permanent residents of the community. Burnt Pine is one of those communities within Sandestin that has attracted permanent, year-round residents because of its renowned golf club, luxury homes, and proximity to nearby amenities and to the Gulf of Mexico. One such Burnt Pine full-time resident was first a visitor, then a seasonal resident, and then decided to make it her primary home. With the assistance of a general contractor with whom she had worked previously on a vacation home renovation, along with architect Geoff Chick and a professional interior designer, the homeowner was able to create her dream home.

The 4,000 square foot, four-bedroom, four and a half bath home is situated on a lot that backs up to a nature preserve, which gives a sense of privacy and seclusion. It features a spacious, open living, dining and kitchen area, with a high vaulted ceiling, dramatic lighting fixtures, and an abundance of windows for natural light. The homeowner, who has two dogs, wanted to devise ways to allow them a great deal of freedom within the house without giving them free rein. There are frosted glass barn doors that close off the large foyer area from the main living space without interfering with the light. In the laundry/utility room, there is a custom-built tub and shower for bathing the dogs and a Dutch door with stainless steel lower panels that allow the dogs to see out of the room.

Dramatic artwork, with custom lighting designed to provide optimum viewing, is featured throughout the home and provides focal points and splashes of intense color to contrast with the cool neutral tones used on walls and upholstered furnishings. There are concealed door panels hiding coat closets and general storage, and storage carefully crafted within the dormers in the second-floor bedrooms.

The master suite is on the main level and boasts luxurious finishes. The enormous master closets feature cabinet grade finishes for storage tailored specifically to the homeowner’s needs. The master bath offers a freestanding soaking tub as well as a zero-entry shower. Natural light stars here, as it does throughout the home. One of the second-floor bedrooms doubles as a gym with bright, splashy wallpaper and also features a Murphy bed that masquerades as a piece of furniture.

Ingeniously-designed sliding panels connect the expansive indoor living area to the outdoor living area. The sliding doors are fifteen feet wide and ten feet tall, and they make the outdoor space seem to be part of the indoor living space. The screened room contains a well-equipped outdoor kitchen, spacious dining area, and access to the very private pool and patio area beyond. In all, the new home has a timeless feeling. It fills the homeowner’s needs and expresses her unique style and personality while fitting seamlessly into the Burnt Pine Sandestin community.
