Imagine sitting in the living room, or on the porch, and looking out at 115 feet of gulf beach from the very first beachfront home constructed in Rosemary Beach! The panoramic view from the second floor main living area stretches fifty miles, from Panama City Beach to the east all the way to Destin to the west. Built on one of the two original Founders’ Lots, the estate home ‘Beluga’ was designed by Bobby McAlpine, and has been a Rosemary Beach landmark for nearly twenty years.
Everything about Beluga is oriented toward the white sandy beach and beyond to the Gulf of Mexico. The expansive courtyard – actually two wide grassy lawns separated by the pool and hot tub and the covered outdoor dining area – joins the home to the beach, and seems to connect indoors and outdoors into a seamless whole. The five porches on the second level living room continue the connectivity of the home and its environs. The carefully chosen building materials and finishes tie the structure to its surroundings, with pecky cypress, slate roofing tiles, and heart pine floors contributing to the home’s sense of being one with the land. The use of Peacock Pavers, traditionally an exterior product, both indoors on the lower level and in the courtyard contributes to the connectivity of the house with its surroundings.
Inside Beluga, comfort and luxury come together in the open living area, with its soaring ceilings, oversized fireplace, and expansive views. Its inviting spaces flow freely from one area to another while still allowing for cozy conversation areas and quiet times as well as ample space for entertaining. The chef’s kitchen boasts an unobstructed view of the gulf and spectacular sunsets, and is anchored by a marble dining bar that seats eight as well as top of the line appliances including a Thermador oven, Subzero refrigerator, six-burner gas cooktop, two Bosch dishwashers, a microwave drawer, icemaker and trash compactor. The crisp, modern white kitchen and its wall of windows are set off perfectly by the sparkling crystal chandelier over the dining bar with its upholstered white seating.
The master suite is also on the upper level. In addition to the master bedroom and bath, there is a fully equipped home office with built-in bookcases and French doors that open onto 600 square feet of covered porches. Just steps from the master suite is the gazebo, a covered outdoor space perfect for entertaining or for a quiet drink under the stars. The adjacent carriage house – the only gulf-front carriage house in Rosemary Beach – is a private 600 square foot space over a two car garage.
The ground floor level offers three complete guest suits, each with its own bath and its own private entrance from the courtyard, providing visitors with luxurious quarters, complete privacy, and easy access to the courtyard, pool, and the beach beyond. In addition, the lower level contains an oversize laundry room complete with Subzero refrigerator drawers and an icemaker for use by guests who want to load up coolers for the beach, or for entertaining. Another feature is the extremely practical mudroom, which provides storage space for beach toys, YOLO boards, fishing gear, and the like.
Everything about Beluga is oriented to the beach and the water, and takes its décor, its color scheme, its use of outdoors as living space, from the site itself. The exotic resort feel is tempered by a strong sense of comfort and ease, making it a perfect marriage of nature and luxury.
